Jean-Paul Agon was CEO from 2011 to 2021 but continues as Chairman of the company. Since May 2021, Nicolas Hieronimus has been CEO of the company.

The history of Estée Lauder is closely linked to her, its founder. She began selling skin care and make-up products in beauty salons, after which the company was founded in 1946. Her success was not long in coming: in 1947 they received their first order worth $800 for the Saks Fifth Avenue store.
